It’s such a pleasuring working with young and growing families. Watching your little ones become a big sibling is just as special as seeing your baby grow!
I recently came across an article by dfwchild.com on how to prepare your little one to be a big sibling and thought they had some great suggestions to share.
-
Share the news once you’re showing and the risk of miscarrying is lessened. They’ll be able to see the baby and understand a bit easier!
-
Be aware of major changes to the schedule and routine before baby comes. For example, if you’re going to begin potty training, begin that well in advance to baby’s arrival if possible.
-
Spend as much quality time together as possible! I know this seems like a given, but spend extra time with them before & after baby arrives. It’ll strengthen your bond and be a treat to have one-on-one time after baby is here.
-
Get them involved! From helping pick out stuff for the baby to when baby arrives, let them be part of the process and take pride in their new big sibling role.
