It’s hard to believe that we are already in the thick of Fall, with the holidays and winter right around the corner! This is, hands down, the busiest time of year for me as a photographer, and I’m often asked why. So today, I am sharing three reasons why Fall is a photographer’s busy season! My aim is to help you understand the reason and how to plan accordingly for your own photography needs.

Outdoor Family Portraits Are Most Popular In The Fall

Reason #1: Weather & Lighting

Fall is the best season for outdoor family portraits because the weather is finally cooling off, and the days are getting shorter. The temperature is just right—not too hot, not too cold, and everyone is comfortable. Additionally, the lighting is excellent due to the sun’s lower horizon, which makes the light softer and produces a lovely glow for your sunset session.

Reason #2: Scenery & colors

Fall foliage makes for a beautiful, natural backdrop for photos. Between the changing color of the leaves and the gold tones in the field, this time of year can really add a layer of coziness and warmth to family photos.

Reason #3: Holidays are around the corner

Holidays mean holiday cards for a LOT of families! And the need for gifts! What better reason is there to update your family photos than to use the pictures in your holiday card and create gifts for family members you know they will absolutely adore?

So how do you ensure you get on my calendar for next Fall in time for outdoor family pictures?

Truth be told, my Fall calendar is often completely full by the end of August because my repeat clients know first hand how quickly they are reserved. My suggestion? Get in touch before school starts to secure your session. When school is ramping back up, it’s one less thing to have to worry with in the hustle & bustle of back-to-school.
