Our family trip to Charleston this year was one of the best family vacations I could have asked for. Not only is Charleston a beautiful city with rich, interesting history, but it’s full of incredible food and shops as well.
If you’re planning a family vacation, put Charleston on your list. I promise it won’t disappoint!
Our favorite things about Charleston
The food. A few years ago, my husband and I took a solo trip and did a walking food tour. That was hands down the best experience we’ve had in Charleston! A few of our favorite spots are…
-
167 Raw – super fresh seafood and some of the best oysters I’ve ever had. The restaurant has an incredible vibe and ambience.
-
Poogan’s Porch – the epitome of southern cuisine and nestled in an old Victorian townhouse. Fantastic for a late brunch before hitting the town or a fine dining diner.
-
Brown Dog Deli – great choice for a more casual/laid back option. They boast some out of this world varieties of sandwiches that don’t disappoint. And of course, a hot dog menu!
-
Harken Cafe – my go-to for coffee or a light breakfast. It’s cozy with rich textures and is like a warm hug when you walk in. I just love this place!
The tours. These are a great way to see the city and learn a lot of history. Whether you select a walking tour or a carriage ride, there’s options for everyone from ghost tours to exploring the food scene. Be mindful of the time of year you’re there when planning tours. A walking tour in August might not be as enjoyable as a carriage ride!
And lastly, their art galleries. Don’t skip walking through galleries. I love wandering through them and often left inspired with some new ideas to take back to my studio! My favorite studio to visit is Principle Gallery on Meeting Street
While we were there, I knew I wanted updated family portraits and was delighted to work with Shannon Oleksak. Below are just a handful of my favorites from our time together. Consider booking a family photographer while on vacation to help document your adventures.
As a professional Photographer, Kate Marie Portraiture is a luxury family photographer in the Dallas and Forth Worth area, including Highland Village, Lewisville, Southlake, Colleyville, Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Grapevine, Northlake, Westlake, Coppell, and Argyle, Texas.
