Luckily, the Dallas/Fort Worth area has plenty of great options for stunning nature preserves, parks, and museums that are often free to the public and provide fun learning opportunities for the entire family. So if you are looking for places to spend the day with your family around DFW, you’re sure to have a great time at one of the nine locations below. 

Free Family Outing ideas

1. Klyde Warren Park: This 5.2-acre park is located in the heart of downtown Dallas and offers a variety of free activities for all ages, including live music, yoga, and children’s storytime.

2. Trinity River Audubon Center: This nature center is located just south of downtown Dallas and offers hiking trails, bird watching, and other outdoor activities.

3. Cedar Ridge Preserve: This 600-acre nature preserve in nearby Cedar Hill offers hiking trails, picnic areas, and beautiful views.

4. Fort Worth Botanic Garden: This 110-acre botanical garden in nearby Fort Worth offers free admission on the first Sunday of every month and free daily admission for children under 4.

5. White Rock Lake: This popular Dallas lake offers a variety of free activities, including hiking and biking trails, fishing, and bird watching.

6. Dallas Museum of Art: The Dallas Museum of Art offers free admission to its permanent collection, which includes works from a variety of cultures and time periods.

7. Fort Worth Water Gardens: This beautiful park in downtown Fort Worth features a series of water features and pools, making it an excellent spot for a picnic or a relaxing afternoon.

8. Dallas Farmers Market: This indoor/outdoor market offers a variety of fresh produce, as well as artisanal goods and prepared foods. Admission is free, and there are often free events and activities for children.

9. Kimbell Art Museum: The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth offers free admission to its permanent collection, which includes works from a variety of cultures and time periods.
